Opportunity Knocks for Bexel ASG

October 2008:
Bexel Broadcast Services’ professional audio group (Bexel ASG - Burbank office) was selected to provide the complicated set-up of wireless production audio, PA and PL/Comms systems for the ABC Television reality show Opportunity Knocks.

From the first episode Bexel ASG integrated an array of traditional and custom made / custom designed equipment and technical staff to service the show for eight episodes in the Los Angeles area and three additional episodes on the east coast.

Over 20 channels of Lectrosonics wireless devices and Sanken LAV mics were used for production audio - all fed to a Yamaha M7CL console (specifically purchased for the project) for PA distribution to L-Acoustics 108B powered speakers throughout the set. Another 32 channels of wired and wireless PL channels provided complete comprehensive communication for the entire production staff and talent.

The project gave the ASG technicians a wonderful opportunity to utilize the private label, custom designed / ASG-modified SPK-300 “biscuit” speaker boxes, as well as custom designed PL interfaces. The on-site techs also found themselves relying heavily on their own Bexel ASG MAS-101 antenna systems to fully cover the complex indoor and outdoor sets.

Gary Vahling, Bexel ASG’s Burbank Rental Manager, spearheaded the project and traveled with the show for most of the episodes. “We were very happy with the reliability of all the equipment that we represented for this project”, Vahling said, noting that “the successful setup that we developed for this show will become a model for the future…”
