100,000 People Celebrate Earth Day 2009 at the National Mall...
On location with Bexel Broadcast Services
Washington DC
April 19, 2009
On Sunday, April 19, 2009, under the umbrella of The Green Generation, 100,000 people attended Earth Day on the National Mall in Washington, DC and, Bexel Broadcast Services was there in full force to provide audio and video resources from the brand’s Herndon VA-based office.
The Earth Day Experience: Secretary of State Hilda Solis, EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson, Representative Edward Markey, green celebrities like Chevy Chase and Matthew Modine, and other representatives of the environmental community addressed the crowd and encouraged the world to join The Green Generation. The Flaming Lips, moe., Los Lobos and DJ Spooky added the soundtrack. Large-scale volunteer events in New York, Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, Seattle, Los Angeles, Denver, Austin, Atlanta, and DC had been going over the weekend, in partnership with Green Apple Festival, followed by thank you concerts for those who participated.
The Bexel Experience: Bexel provided equipment rentals and audio support to a number of local broadcasters as an ‘on-site’ resource depot as well as providing exclusive specialty service to one of the brand’s top local clients, Event Tech, front and center at the all day concert event. It was a six camera HD fly pack with Bexel engineers Ron Fuller, Chris Acetta, and Ted Marvin on site as well as Bexel DC Operations manager Nate Hayes as production support. Bexel also employed John Nash (formerly of Atlantic Video) as TD/switcher for the show and Charley Slie of ABC Sports to camera shade the event.
Bexel DC’s rental spokesman, Jason Stelluto had this to say to the hard working staff of the local Bexel office: "Many thanks to all of the DC staff for the support and man power for all of the last minute changes to this massive contract. Everyone did a great job. From what I saw streaming on the internet, it looked and sounded great. All of your efforts are much appreciated, as I feel like this may be the first of many of this type of event in our immediate future. Keep up the good work and the great team spirit…”
