Apr 21st, 2011    Bexel Wins "STAR" Award from Editors of TV Technology
The STAR Awards Showcase Outstanding Technological Innovations Available in the Broadcast Industry
LAS VEGAS, APRIL 21, 2011—Bexel, a unit of the Vitec Group’s Services Division and a leading worldwide provider of broadcast services and solutions, is the recipient of the 2011 STAR (Superior Technology Award Recipient) Award presented by the editorial staff of TV Technology magazine at the 2011 NAB Show. Amongst the other recipients being recognized for leading products, Bexel was honored for its state-of-the-art Hercules Flypack for 3D Production—a scalable and customizable production solution for remote and space-constrained venues.

Now celebrating its 11th anniversary, TV Technology’s STAR Award is designed to honor and showcase the outstanding technological innovations available to the broadcast industry. A panel of judges consisting of TV Technology editors and columnists reviewed a variety of products, examined the technical applications and their overall contribution to the industry, and then submitted their award nominees.

“The NAB Show serves as the launching pad for thousands of new products and services for audio and video professionals,” says Tom Butts, TV Technology Editor. “Our panel of judges walk the show floor in search of the most innovative technologies. The products and services that we select for the STAR Award make the cut—they demonstrate their ability to help advance the acquisition and distribution of entertainment and information across the media spectrum.”

The Hercules Flypack for 3D Production was featured at NAB’s outdoor 3D basketball area alongside 3ality Digital acquisition systems to offer show attendees a closer look at the tools and technology needed for 3D production. It included a Sony 8000G 80-input, fully optioned switcher; a Calrec Artemis mixing console; 96-input LCD production monitor wall utilizing Evertz MVP multi-image display processors; Pesa Cheetah Multi-format video router and DRS audio router; multiple EVS LSM XT[2] six-channel HD DDRs and Sony SRW-5800 HDCam SR VTRs. Flexible and rugged, Hercules was specifically equipped for 3D after making previous appearances for HD coverage at the Olympics, Oscars, U.S. Open Tennis, PGA Tour and Champions Skins Golf Tournament and is capable of being shipped anywhere in the world.

“We are so honored to have won this prestigious award from TV Technology for our Hercules Flypack,” says Craig Schiller, vice president and general manager of Bexel. “Having outfitted the Hercules Flypack for 3D Production at NAB specifically, we’re ecstatic to know that not only our customers, but also leaders in our industry, took note as to how impressive this customizable production system truly is. Our engineering team is extremely talented and their flexible design of the system allows Hercules to scale up or down and allow for both 2D and 3D workflows.”
