February 12-15, 2009 U.S. Airways, Downtown area Phoenix, AZ
Against the backdrop of the American Southwest, the world's greatest basketball players and leading broadcast companies convened in Phoenix to present the 2009 NBA All Star Game. Once a one day novelty of sorts it is now a full scale, multi-day, interactive, fan-focused event, and at the center of it all was Bexel Broadcast Services. Always the backbone of TNT and NBA TV productions, and the technical services point-of-contact for everyone from the broadcast trucks, internet streamers, and international broadcasters, Bexel was also instrumental in the 3D production of the festivities with gear and considerable technical services provided to Pace. Additionally, a 3-camera HD flypack was provided to NBA TV at the downtown Sheraton for player interviews within a shifting (and limited) timeframe thanks to the tech team under the supervision of Johnny Pastor and the engineering skills of John Robledo, Pat Daly and others.
The lynch pin of the whole operation as usual was Bexel's own Lee Estroff (aka: The Coach), the ultimate go-to-guy for last minute needs at TNT/Turner, NBA TV, NBA Digital, NEP, Game Creek, the Alliance, and Pace, to name a few. Not the least of Bexel's involvement was the BBS One mobile edit truck providing Avid NLE's over a Unity, and the Final Cut pro workstations in the Turner edit truck, to make sure the pre-edited packages went out efficiently and smoothly. This was overseen with extreme precision by Estroff and Jason Denagy, Bexel's resident post production workflow expert. Within the various locales which included the US Airways Center, NBA Block Party and Sheraton Hotel, Rhett Frazier and Garrick Lewis were able to host multiple technology showcases as they themselves were immersed in the production, network, and most importantly, learning the true client needs of the day.
