Bexel Sales Event # 23: SVG VENUE TECHNOLOGY SUMMIT
Intercontinental Hotel, Kansas City MO
October 27 - 28, 2008

THE FULL STORY

Bexel Broadcast Services co-hosted this summit, which brought together sports stadium, arena architects, broadcasters and vendors to discuss new trends in truck bay, scoreboard, HDTV, and suite designs. For this event, SVG released a new CD-ROM that contains CAD specifications for architects, consultants and contractors. SVG's mobile advisory council has been working with industry associations, architects and designers to produce a spec document for mobile production vehicles.

The topics during this event covered, truck bay design, fiber for venues, scoreboard technologies, and video/audio integration for facility fan suites. Scott Nardelli, representing Bexel's Fiber division (Bexel BFS) was a guest speaker on the fiber panel and gave a solid overview of how Bexel can provide short-term, long-term, and repair solutions for the venue decision makers. Scott gave several options and discussed best practices for building and upgrading facility fiber infrastructures.

Joining Scott on this panel were professionals from Telecast, Evertz, and ESPN. Al Fong from ESPN was a voice on several panels during this event and provided a great deal of information and opinions for what the remote production teams need from venue to venue. Al's experience as ESPN's New Technology leader was very informative. We were pleased when Al gave a big credit to the Bexel BBS team that supported him and his crew on the recent Breeder's Cup event ""¦Big Scott, Rubin, and Jason were just outstanding"¦"

RF concerns for both wireless video and audio were discussed at length as to the positioning of receive sites, how WiFi and WiMax overlays effect the production depending on venue type and location. This led to another White Space discussion and how critical the impact will be on every sport and every venue.

The group has produced a "Stadium Design Wish List" white paper that has captured and outlined all of the major items that need to be addressed by the consultants and architects. With more stadiums and facilities expanding in the future, this was a timely and important event for the broadcasters to meet the builders and share their viewpoints on ways to improve these performance venues.

Bexel's team at the event consisted of Tim Sutton, Scott Nardelli, and Jim Richardson. As with every SVG event, Bexel provided the audio and video equipment as part of their Platinum Sponsorship.
