Bexel Broadcast Services, in association with, Fox Sports, SVG, Gamecreek, and NASCAR Media, worked with 18 college students from Charlotte area universities to provide a training-driven behind-the-scenes look at remote production and what is involved in bringing a live NASCAR race to the viewing audience. The goal? Groom the television professionals of the future from a crop of eager students who are showing strong interest in production right now. The cross-section of students from UNC Charlotte, and Carolina School of Broadcasting were treated to a full day of tours and overviews of the Fox Television compound with Rod Conti from Fox, Steve Shapiro for Speed Channel, Kevin Calahan from Gamecreek, and Bexel's Jim Richardson.

The students were given working production truck tours and engaged in discussions with key OB truck personnel, as well as a hands-on session with the latest in HD equipment from Bexel. The students toured all of the primary production trucks responsible for airing the week long NASCAR event that was capped off by the Coca Cola 600 on Sunday May 25, 2008. The students were awarded "all access" to the Sportvision, FOX "A" and "B" unit trucks, along with an upclose look at the technology utilized for the robocams mounted in the track wall and Fox's Hollywood Hotel in the infield.

Rob Conti, Senior Technical Manager, from Fox Sports Los Angeles gave the students a very thorough overview of the SVG-U program and explained that Bexel and SVG are very close to launching the SVGU.com website designed to assist universities and students in finding available jobs and internships, the ability to post resumes, and to watch video interviews with leading sports broadcasting production and engineering executives. The first of these interviews was produced in Daytona earlier this year and Rod will be producing additional vignettes at the Charlotte compound throughout the weekend.

SVG, Fox, Bexel and Gamecreek will continue to support and conduct similar events at live-event venues throughout 2008 and 2009.
