HERCULES SPANS THE GLOBE
TO PROVIDE HD FLYPACK FACILTIES
FOR WORLD CLASS EVENTS

Bexel's latest industry-leading HD Flypack, known as Hercules, has traveled 20,000 miles over the past month - from the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China to the PGA "Grand Slam" in Tucker's Town, Bermuda. The versatile and one-of-a-kind HD Flypack has trekked around the globe providing unmatched production facilities at two world class events.

After coming off a very successful showing at the Summer Olympics (where it became known as "the" HD facility at the swimming and diving venue that showed the world the eight gold medal performances of Michael Phelps), Bexel tech managers and engineers didn't have time to sit back and enjoy the international accolades garnered. Instead, Hercules was on the move as soon as the torch went out - on to its next international destination. In Beijing, Bexel engineers packed and prepped the modular system for its journey to TNT's 2008 version of the PGA Grand Slam in Bermuda. The scaleable design of the system and its diverse functionality made this an easy task.

The 2008 PGA Grand Slam marks the second year in which Bexel's Hercules has provided HD production facilities for Turner Sports at this prestigious event. The four-man tournament format originating from the Mid-Ocean Club in Tucker's Town, Bermuda is an event that presents many technical challenges. Quick deployment is vital for the on-course cameras due to the tournament's format. Each shot is crucial to the outcome and cannot be missed. Reliable RF audio / video and fiber optic connectively throughout the rugged golf course terrain is paramount.

Bexel partner, 3G Wireless, and it's own Fiber Optic team (Bexel BFS - Fiber Optic Solutions), worked together to provide seamless RF video and audio throughout the Mid-Ocean Club grounds. A 72-strand tactical fiber was the backbone of the infrastructure providing connectivity for the multiple antenna receives sites on the course. 3G Wireless utilized the Nucomm CamPac2 transmitter on Sony HDC-1500L cameras for true HD wireless video, while Bexel supported it with 60,000 feet of tactical and SMPTE fiber.

"I could not have been more pleased with Bexel and 3G Wireless's performance", said Senior Producer for TNT, Chris Carmody. "I was most impressed by how remarkable the HD pictures looked during the tournament. The weather conditions were not ideal, but we still succeeded in capturing the essence of this magnificent course and its surroundings throughout the week".
