Bexel provided HD Fiber Feeds, Technical Expertise and Engineering Support to Broadcasters and Photographers - live.

Bexel, the leading U.S. broadcast equipment rental resource, provided a varied array of support and services in the form of equipment rentals, fiber-optic technical expertise and engineering support to the recent Academy Awards Show and to legions of national/international press that covered the star-studded event from Los Angeles.

According to Craig Schiller, Director of Broadcast Services for Bexel, a number of HD & SD Fiber feeds were provided for an extensive array of equipment at the show. "Using the Stratos Lightwave HD Electrical to Optical Media Converters, we fed HD material to the Kodak Theatre projection both for the "Best Picture" projectors as well as LED's around the exterior of the facility," Schiller said.

He also said that fiber was primarily used to connect the main show mobile units and the pre-show mobile units - carrying HD, SD & Analog video in addition to audio and communications signals over Stratos Lightwave, Telecast and Evertz fiber gear. "Bexel Fiber-Optics specialists ran HD, SD, and Analog fiber feeds from the main show to International and Domestic TV compounds that were roughly a half mile away," Schiller recalled.

Scott Nardelli, Director of Bexel's Fiber Optics Division, oversaw the installation of a customized fiber optic network that was installed specifically for the Academy Awards Show. Fiber demarcations were located throughout the Hollywood and Highland facilities along with the Kodak Theater. "My skilled team installed fiber underneath Hollywood Blvd to establish a "Fiber Network" enabling us to cross connect to almost any area of the Hollywood and Highland complex," said Nardelli.
