Saturday, March 1, 2008: the biggest names in production audio, including Academy Award and Emmy winning mixers from the Los Angeles production community came together to share ideas and brainstorm various collective technical challenges. Over 80 industry professionals converged for the first Bexel Broadcast Services/Local 695 Audio Engineer Survival Day. Local 695, made up of production sound technicians, television engineers, video assist technicians and studio projectionists witnessed demonstrations of the most-used audio mixing equipment, participated in interactive panel discussions and had a chance to get hands-on equipment usage at Bexel's Burbank headquarters.
Presenters demonstrated a variety of equipment such as the DV824 Multitrack Recorder and PD-6 Portable DAT Location Recorder from Fostex, the Zaxcom Deva 5.8 Location Recorder, Sound Devices 744T Portable Recorder and Aaton Cantar-X "“ including detailed exploration of drilled down into menus and display functionality. Many discussions were held on how to be prepared in a number of challenging production situations
This was the first in a series of 2008 Bexel-driven and promoted events aimed at audio professionals and a real statement on the company's commitment to the professional live event and audio-for-sports community. This year, Bexel ASG (the brand's Audio Specialties Group) will take its rightful place in the previously competitive audio-for-television marketplace "“ as leader.
At the conclusion of the event, Glenn Berkovitz commented, "This was absolutely incredible. We had no idea that Bexel could offer all of this. We can't wait to come back and focus on what specific Bexel ASG solutions might assist our members on future projects."
Laurence Abrams, director of education for IATSE Local 695, stated "Up until now, Bexel has not been on our radar. It's nice to know that there is an alternative to [X competitor and especially XX competitor]", and expressed an interest to make this a quarterly event. Further, he summed up the day using only one word: "Awesome!"
