SOUND (Technical) ADVICE - Grammys Aphex Mic Pre-Installation

Many audio experts and some truly reliable equipment stepped up last Sunday night to deliver a heck of a Grammy Awards Show. Among the literally truck-loads of equipment used, the Effanel/XM team employed the second-largest installation of Aphex 1788A remote-controlled 8-channel mic pre's.

While most of the Aphex 1788A preamps used at the Grammys were those installed in Effanel/XM's L7 remote truck, another 32 channels (to handle orchestral string overflows) were rented from the Audio Specialties Group (a subsidiary of Bexel Broadcast Services) in Burbank. Their technical advice on this one? They have assured us that the preamplifier's MicLim feature makes it perfect for unpredictable events such as live awards shows and reality television production.

When Bexel ASG gives its advice on a particular product or technology shift, the industry is listening!
